What is Super 8?
Super 8 is an analog film format introduced by Kodak in 1965 that captures motion on physical 8mm film stock. Unlike digital video that records pixels, Super 8 uses light-sensitive film that's exposed frame by frame, then chemically developed in a lab. This creates that distinctive warm, nostalgic quality with natural grain and organic color shifts that defined home movies for generations. The format got its name from the size of the film (8mm wide) and the "super" designation came from its larger frame size compared to the original 8mm format.
Why Super 8 for my wedding?

How far in advance should I book Super 8?
We recommend booking your Super 8 wedding film 6-12 months in advance, especially for peak wedding season (May through October).
Because Super 8 requires specialized equipment, careful planning, and coordination with film labs, we only take a limited number of weddings per year to ensure each couple receives our full attention and the highest quality final product.
Popular dates particularly summer Saturdays and holiday weekends—book up quickly. If your wedding is less than 6 months away, reach out anyway! We occasionally have availability for last-minute bookings, and elopements or weekday weddings often have more flexible timelines. The earlier you book, the more time we have to plan the perfect shot list, scout your venue if needed, and ensure your film stock is ordered and ready. Once you're booked, you'll have peace of mind knowing your wedding film is in expert hands.
How much does a 2nd Story Studio Super 8 wedding film cost?
Super 8 wedding film packages at 2nd Story Studio begins at $8,000. This investment reflects not just the wedding day filming, but the cost of physical film stock (which is increasingly rare and expensive), professional lab development, and expert color grading by the same post-production teams who work on award-winning films.
Unlike digital videography where you can shoot unlimited footage, every frame of Super 8 film has real material cost, making it a premium artisan service. Each package includes professionally edited highlight films, digital files for sharing, and optional physical film reels. We're happy to provide detailed pricing during a consultation call where we can learn about your specific wedding day vision.
Do you provide digital files?
Yes! While your wedding is captured on physical Super 8 film, all final deliverables are provided as high-resolution digital files that are easy to share, stream, and preserve.
After the film is developed and professionally color graded, you'll receive your cinematic highlight film as a digital download and via a private online gallery you can share with family and friends.
We also typically include a full stringout of your raw digitized film footage - typically this is a 10-20 stringout of from throughout the day, like an movie from your old family archive.
can provide your physical film reels in archival cases as a beautiful keepsake (additional fee applies). The digital files are yours to keep forever—no expiration dates, no hidden fees. You can download them, back them up, share them on social media, and play them for decades to come. We deliver in formats compatible with all modern devices and social platforms.
